OEPI is in a partnership with PRé Consultants, makers of SimaPro, the leading LCA software tool. We are collaborating on a technical approach that uses our ontology to incorporate EPIs, calculated within SimaPro, into the OEPI system to be further used in various network-based scenarios. This work is based on the premise that OEPI does not aim to replace existing solutions, but rather build on them by providing functionality that can only be achieved in a many-to-many system. When this research task concludes, we will have a proof of concept in which a company uses SimaPro to calculate certain EPIs of a specific product, we incorporate them in our system, and the user continues using these EPIs in OEPI, for example to include them as a component in a more complex product, to compare it to alternative products on the network, or benchmark it with all products of the same category.
